About the programme

Marine life present on the island is our valuable asset. It needs to be nurtured with care and devotion. Our marine biologists are responsible for running the marine centre in an effective manner. The various activities include sea turtle management, spreading environmental awareness to the community, organizing local reef health and also managing the international volunteers who participate in the marine progress programme. This task requires a lot of devotion and commitment. The management team will choose the best candidates for the task who are able to fulfil the requirements of the project. We surely welcome different volunteers from around the world sharing their knowledge and expertise. You will not regret this opportunity because we will make sure that your stay here with us is as meaningful as possible.


Tasks and responsibilities

The marine biologist will be the head of the department. Following are the major responsibilities.

• Managing the daily activities of the marine centre, such as:

o Cleaning coral reefs, coral gardening and monitoring its health

o Replantation mangroves and monitoring them

o Nurturing marine turtles, egg harvesting and monitoring them

• Expanding marine conservation programme

• Collaborate with the local and international volunteers

• Spreading environmental awareness of protecting coral reefs, turtles and mangroves by conducting ongoing campaigns, workshops and seminars

• Developing progress reports and proposals


Requirements

• Highly proficient in spoken and written English

• Background in conservation (eg. previous work experience, educational certificates)

• Experience in working with marine animals, such as turtles and others, is preferred

• Experience in working on developing of tropical countries is preferred

• Passion for conservation

• Easy going and open-minded personality

• Friendly towards various cultures

• Ability to work both in a team and independently

No programme fee for volunteers staying more than 6 months. The positions is unpaid but we offer you accommodation, domestic transport and 3 meals per day.
